Fat monkeys at a Japanese park have been put on a diet, and signs have been erected to stop the public from lobbing bananas into their enclosure.
Wardens at Ohama Park in Sakai, near Osaka, have cut down the amount of food they give to the rhesus monkeys from 22lbs (10kg) a day to 4.4lbs (2kg), because many of them are obese. Almost a third of the 50 animals are overweight.
Some of them are so obese they find it hard to even move around their enclosure
While i like the idea of fat monkeys (doesnt everyone), shame on the zoo for allowing them to get in this state. Maybe the instigation of a monkey olympics event would give them impetus need to get back into shape?
