11 Feb 09 First Hull Ukulele Group meeting

On a cold, wet, snowy evening in Hull, 17 people turned up for the first ever Hull Ukulele Group meeting :)

There was a mixture of complete beginners, beginners who could play the guitar, people who could already play the uke, a few musicians, and a person who I am reliably informed hid their ability under a very large bushel.

Amid a wash of Mahalos of every colour, and only two tuners (mine and my mates) we taught the beginners a G & a Cmaj7 and launched into ‘Anyone Else but you’, and by adding an extra chord each time went through ‘Five years time’, ‘Blitzkrieg Bop’ & ‘I walk the line’ (which was a firm favourite) In between this several people did a ‘turn’ of their own

It might have been the excitement in the air, or the booze, or the fact that the half a dozen badly out of tune ukuleles managed to cancel themselves out – but it all sounded ace to me :D

It was a brilliant night, and everyone was so keen to meet up again that we are getting back together in two weeks time (23rd Feb)

I got home on Monday night very soggy & slightly worse for wear, but very happy

I have now set up a Hull Ukulele Group website, which will hopefully be the group’s new home :D

You’re welcome. Did anyone find out about HUG because of it?

There was one guy who turned up who said that his friend (who plays, and who doesnt live in hull) found out about the club on the internet, and let him know.

So its either you, or the ‘cosmos!!
